The Put-in-Bay EMS is responsible for providing emergency assistance and covers approximately 169 square miles. The Put-in-Bay EMS has been the leader in Advanced Life Support since 1977. Tax levies help to make their life-saving efforts possible. Additionally, volunteers are a core part of their success. Thanks to the volunteer involvement the coffers stay full of this much-needed service.
Put-in-Bay EMS Location & Partnership
The EMS station is located at the intersection of Catawba Avenue and Erie Street. The Put-in-Bay School is conveniently less than a block away. With the popular downtown strip nearby, the majority of the attractions, dining and shopping options are within close proximity. This location allows the EMS crew to reach any crisis in rapid speed and ready to help those in need.
Partnership with St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center
Thanks to a recent partnership with St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center there is now a paramedic on the island year round. With that said, all of the volunteers and EMS staff are provided continuing education at the hospital. The education received will help ensure personnel remains current with medical procedures as they change. Due to the drastic increase in population in the summer months, there is always a huge need for staff. New recruits come from all over the Lake Erie areas to help meet the seasonal demand. Put-in-Bay EMS has a total of four ambulances to serve the island's needs. With an average of 400 EMS calls per year, this is ample to cover the needs of the island. Each ambulance is rigged with the most up-t0-date technology and equipment. These vehicles also include Advanced Life Support equipment and a variety of life-saving medications. Locals and visitors alike can rest easy knowing they are in good hands with Put-in-Bay's EMS team. Another benefit to the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center is they helped provide a means to provide a Clinic. This clinic is located inside the EMS building.
