New Book Tells of Forgotten History and Attractions at Put-in-Bay
A new book called Lost Put-in-Bay is scheduled to hit the bookshelves on Memorial Day. This title marks the culmination of years of research into the island’s early history by William G. Krejci, co-host of the Haunted Put-in-Bay Ghost Walk. The first part of the book shares stories of the island’s earliest settlement that have, until now, largely been overlooked. It continues with tales of the grand accommodations that have surrendered to flames and time. The golden age of passenger steamships is explored, as are the mysteriously Plutonian caves that are no longer accessible to the public. Village sites, roller coasters and other lost attractions come to light with historic photos in this glimpse into the island’s storied past.
If you’ve read any of Bill’s other writings about island history, you will certainly enjoy his latest work, and if you haven’t read any of them, rest assured you will be intrigued by the depth of his research and the stories he has to tell.
The book will be available at the Lake Erie Islands Historical Society Museum’s gift shop, at the Country House and chain bookstores in the area, as well as Amazon.
